An incredible combination of panoramic views, nature and culture are offered on both of these quality footpaths. From the delightful, little wineries in the border triangle, you will discover the charming Moselle and Saar scenery along the old Roman roads until you get to Trier. This pleasant metropolis by the river Mosel charms its visitors with its lively old town and 9 UNESCO world heritage sites, which you will explore whilst on a circular walk through Trier. A boat ride on the Mosel offering many panoramic views is a must before you continue your week’s walk along the Eifelsteig through wild and romantic nature, and finally by crossing a suspension bridge into the idyllic Kyll valley.
Walking
The routes run along good footpaths through wonderful nature. You always have magnificent views too. You need to bring a good level of fitness with you. The longer stages can be shortened with public transport.

You set off on your week’s walking holiday from the small wine growing district, Perl in the Saarland and you then walk along the river Mosel, which is only separated from the Luxemburg’s border town, Schengen, by the river Mosel itself.
The start of your week’s walk gives you a view across the border triangle to Luxembourg and France. Your route takes you from the delightful wine-growing region via quaint forests and extensive fields in the Palatinate wine village, Palzem, which welcomes you with famous wineries and extensive vineyards. There you will meet again the river Moselle and enjoy a glass of the best Elbling wines.
After visiting the double towered Helfant cathedral, you walk along the paths offering great views and short but steep ascents along the flourishing meadows and forests. Enjoy the view of the river Mosel before you reach the next wine district by a crossroads
You walk along diverse paths through the species-rich nature protection area “Nitteler Felsen” whilst getting impressive panoramic views of the river Mosel and the unique limestone cliffs by the Mosel and Saar. Through the Albachtal valley, it goes up to the view point with a remarkable chapel, where wild ochrids bloom. In the afternoon you reach where the river Saar in the river Mosel, a region that was already inhabited in Roman times.
Today you head towards the Mosel Metropolis, Trier, and you will be tracing the Romans. After crossing the river Mosel, it is worth taking a detour to the Igel Column, which is a richly ornamented roman monument. You then walk through the Busen valley along nature natural paths (despite being close to the town) in the culturally rich town of Trier. Its many attractions are waiting for you.
Make sure that you visit the UNESCO-World heritage site Porta Nigra, the amphitheater and the cathedral in Germany’s oldest town. You walk along the Traumsteig up to the Petrisberg where you will get a breathtaking view of Trier and the Mosel valley. In the afternoon, you will go on a panoramic ship ride on the river Mosel.
Today you will switch from the Moselsteig to the Eifelsteig. It is the final stage on this walking holiday and it would be pretty tricky to offer more highlights than on this tour. Impressive natural monuments like the well-known Genoveva and Klausen caves or the view of the Kyll river meanders and the imposing Burg Ramstein are all waiting for you on today’s walk through the romantic Butzerbach valley.

Many of our trips come with baggage transfer included (some have optional baggage transfer, and on very few remote trips baggage transfer is unavailable, but do check the exact tour inclusions). You will drop overnight bags (one per person) by an allotted time each morning in a designated area in your hotel or B&B. This leaves you free to walk unencumbered, with only your day pack of essentials. Your baggage will be transferred to your next night's accommodation, and will usually arrive before you do!
